Functional Medicine
Any changes to the normal physiology of our body can occur long before a disease is manifested. Sub-optimal functional laboratory test results will indicate a need for intervention and correction of such dysfunctions even though traditional testing may show everything is within normal range. This subtle but important difference of sub-optimal physiological health will create enough symptoms to get us to the conventional doctors, but then no reason can be found for what is causing other health problems. This is because conventional medicine interprets laboratory tests in a different manner than doctors practicing Functional Medicine. Therefore, most patients will experience symptoms of "unknown origin, while their bodies suffer and deteriorate, only to be diagnosed years later with a condition which could have been avoided from the beginning.
The role of Functional Medicine is to find these "Functional Imbalances" with the aid of advanced laboratory testing and to restore the patient to a normal state of optimal health by providing the body with an individualized nutritional and herbal program aimed at reestablishing its normal physiological functions. Once these physiological needs have been addressed, a regression of the symptoms being experienced by the patient begins and restoration to maximum health normally follows.
